Achievements of Thailand
 
 
1)  Thai students have won another three gold medals in academic olympiad competitions - two in Mathematics in Spain and one in Chemistry in Hungary, at the 12-day-long 49th International Mathematical Olympiad from July 10-22 in Madrid.  The Thai student team also scored sixth highest among the 97 countries participating, with 175 points.  www.bangkokpost.com/220708_News/22Jul2008_news04.php

3)  Student teams from Chulalongkorn University, Thailand won 2008 RoboCup World Campionship http://enews.mcot.net/view.php?id=5390

4)  Humanitarian Award and Nobel Peace Award for Thai pharmacist Dr. Krisana Kraisintu. Also, she has been named Reader's Digest Asian of the Year for 2008 for her tireless work on researching and manufacturing generic HIV-Aids and malaria treatment drugs which have already saved millions of the poor people in African and Southeast Asian countries.

The proofs of the high calibre of the Thais are not only shown as the evidences above.  We won many academic Olympiads Competitions in the consecutive years before, particularly in the area of sciences as the following sample achievements:-
 
1)  In 2007:  A group of Thai students won one gold medal, three silver and two bronze medals from the International Mathematical Olympiad, held in the Vietnamese capital of Hanoi from 19-31 July 2007.  Earlier, other groups of Thai youths also won International Physics, Biology and Chemistry Olympiads 2007 held earlier in July in Iran, Canada and Russia respectively. http://thailand.prd.go.th/view_focus.php?id=2174

3)  In 2006:  Four Thai students have won four medals - one gold, two silvers and one bronze, at the Academic Olympics chemistry competition held in South Korea from July 2-11.
 
4)  In 2006:  The Thai student team won three gold medals and one silver at the International Biology Olympiad (IBO) held in Argentina from July 9 to 16.
 
5)  In 2006:  A six-member team of Thai students won medals at the International Mathematical Olympiad, held in Slovenia, while five youngsters have won medals in the International Physics Olympiad 2006, held in Singapore from July 8 to 17.
 
6)  In 2006:  Thai student teams won the Asia Pacific ICT Awards (APICTA) 2006 held in China's Macau from November 2-5.  Its 16 member-economies include Australia, Brunei, China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Korea, Macau, Malaysia, Myanmar, Pakistan, Philippines, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Thailand and Vietnam.


After earning just one bronze medal in the first year of participation in 1989, Thai students to date have obtained around 300 medals at these contests, which are not widely known. In comparison, other countries, many medalists have become famous mathematicians and scientists. Terence Tao, the Australian child prodigy, for example, won three IMO medals during 1986-88 and was the youngest person to receive a gold medal from the IMO at the age of 13. In 2006, he finally received the Fields Medal, often described as the 'Nobel Prize of Mathematics'.
 
These can show the facts that Thailand is actually one of the potentiality countries as we have high qualities of the country's geographical location, and the Thais.
 
I sent this to all of you because I've been feeling sorry for Thailand, which is the main problem of Thailand, that the patronage system has been deeply rooted in the Thai's state bureaucracies and socialisation, leading to the corruption and having the inefficient Gov't (stemming from the reciprocal benefits among the influencing groups).    They have been obstructive to the developments of human resources, the accepted norms and the country as a whole for decades. Even though, to me, Thailand and the Thais are not bad, able to compete with others internationally and shine on globle stage as well.   Let's help Thailand move forward by not getting involved in any corruption, starting from our generation.  Our next generation would be able to boost it up by following ours' examples!!
